New Old Stock / 2019

The idiom new old stock is used in retail to refer to goods that have either been brought in to circulation after some time languishing on stock shelves, or to define components.

This exhibition ties to the idea of new old stock in multiple ways. Some objects here are old, having sat in the studio unused for some time. Some are brand new, some are found, most are formed by the artist, and all have been brought together to form something entirely new. And in doing so, Losch has assigned value to each object, and the work as a whole.

Objects here have been plaster cast in molds as diverse as fruit husks hollowed out by chickens, voids in polystyrene packaging, baking trays and toilet rolls. Found glassware and an array of handles, springs, taps, and timber collide with Losch’s crafted objects to create a playful and materially rich experience.
